Tripura Introduces Uniform Dress Code for State Govt Schools
Agartala, Sept 11: The Government of Tripura has announced the rollout of a standardised school uniform policy. The initiative aims to bring uniformity across government-run educational institutions.
According to an official notification, the move is intended to create a common identity and ensure uniform standards among schools of similar categories. The directive will be applicable to all government schools, including Vidyajyoti and PM-SHRI institutions, across Tripura.
However, the notification clarified that four institutions—Shishu Bihar H.S. School in West Tripura, Sukhamoy H.S. School in West Tripura, Umakanta Academy in West Tripura, and PM SHRI Radha Kishore Institution in Unakoti district—will remain exempt from the new dress code.
The new rule will cover students from Classes I to XII in all other government schools. District Education Officers (DEOs) have been tasked with instructing principals, vice-principals, headmasters, headmistresses, assistant heads, and teachers-in-charge to ensure compliance with the prescribed uniform design and colour.
For the ongoing academic year, schools will be allowed to continue with their existing uniforms alongside the new ones to allow for a smooth transition.
However, beginning next academic session, adherence to the standardized uniform will be mandatory, the order stated.
Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, government uniforms are already provided to eligible students of Classes I to VIII. The process of distributing the newly prescribed attire to these students is currently underway and expected to conclude shortly.
The government notification further noted that the initiative is designed to strengthen discipline, encourage equality among students, and instill a sense of collective identity within the state’s school system.
