After Years of Wait, Mallik Para to Get Drinking Water Facility
Gandachhara, Oct 17: A long-cherished dream of the residents of Mallik Para in Sharma Village under Gandachhara subdivision in Tripura is finally coming true. After decades of acute drinking water shortage, the village is set to receive its own deep tube well — marking a significant step towards resolving one of the region’s most persistent problems.
For years, the people of Mallik Para have struggled without access to safe drinking water. The situation became particularly dire during the summer months, forcing villagers to walk long distances daily to fetch water for their families. Despite repeated appeals to the panchayat, block authorities, and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department since the Left regime, their pleas had remained unheard — trapped in bureaucratic paperwork with no real progress on the ground.
At last, under the present BJP-led government, that long wait is coming to an end. Thanks to the relentless efforts of MDC Bhumiknanda Reang of the 8-No. Ganganagar–Gandachhara constituency and Dumboornagar Block Vice-Chairman Bikash Chakma, the PHE Department has taken the initiative to install a deep tube well in Mallik Para. Villagers believe this long-awaited project will permanently end their water woes.

The ‘groundbreaking ceremony’ was marked by a Ganga Puja performed by local residents, seeking divine blessings for the smooth completion of the project and the well-being of the community. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of sweets, as joy and relief swept through the entire area.
“We have been waiting for this day for so many years. Finally, our dream is becoming a reality,” said an elderly resident, expressing gratitude to the officials involved. “This government believes in action, not just promises — and today, we see the proof in our village.”
