CM warns against divisive politics, vows legal response to violence

Agartala Oct 22: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Wednesday said that certain individuals continue to engage in divisive and conspiratorial politics reminiscent of the Communist era, but misleading the Janajati community will yield no results.

Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the Takajala Mandal office, Dr. Saha emphasized that the people of Tripura stand for peace, development, and democracy, and asserted that the state government would not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation.

“If anyone attacks us, we will respond appropriately through legal means,” the Chief Minister cautioned.

Recalling past incidents of political violence, Dr. Saha said, “I have visited this area several times. Even the residence of our Mandal President was attacked. This pattern of aggression, a legacy of Communist-style politics, must end. We want Tripura to progress in a peaceful and just environment. Just as Prime Minister Modi has transformed national politics, we aim to bring similar change to Tripura’s political culture. We will safeguard ourselves within the framework of the law. We will not harm anyone, but if we are wronged, we will seek justice legally.”

The Chief Minister further remarked that those threatening the BJP are “living in a dream.”

“Everyone has the right to do politics, but there must be dignity and responsibility in it. We have seen how the Communist and Congress regimes were marked by violence, killings, and lawlessness. The BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is guided by the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas—we want development for all sections of society,”

The BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is guided by the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas—we want development for all sections of society,” Dr. Saha said.

During the programme, Dr. Saha welcomed 690 new voters from 200 families who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The event was attended by BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharya, state general secretary Bipin Debbarma, tribal welfare minister Bikas Debbarma, district president Biplab Chakraborty, Takajala Mandal leader Nirmal Debbarma, and several other senior party leaders.

Highlighting the party’s legacy, Dr. Saha said that the BJP was built on the sacrifices of its founding leaders.

“Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee sacrificed his life for the unity of the nation, while Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s ideals continue to inspire us. Our Karyakartas fear no challenge. Attempts to stop us through violence may happen, but they will only be temporary. The BJP could end decades of Communist rule because of its strong organizational foundation,” he said.

He added that the BJP Janajati Morcha is committed to uplifting the Janajati community and warned that anyone trying to hinder their progress would fail.

Dr. Saha also reiterated that improving the socio-economic condition of Janajati people remains one of the key priorities of his government. “In the past, the Janajati community was used as a vote bank and misled for political gain. Our government, since coming to power, has made their development a top priority,” he said.
