Salema Santirbazar violence: No one will be spared

Agartala Oct 24: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on today vowed that those responsible for the violence in Santirbazar in Salema will be brought to justice and “no one will be spared”.

Dr. Saha made the remarks after visiting GB Pant Hospital to check on the condition of victims who were injured in clashes at Santirbazar under the Salema police station in Kamalpur, during a bandh called by the Tripura Civil Society on Wednesday.

“Last night I closely monitored the situation and have issued clear directions,” Dr. Saha said.

“I have come today to enquire about the health of the injured. What happened is completely unacceptable. People were attacked with sticks and rods, and chains were snatched — I cannot accept this as a form of protest. I have directed the Tripura Police to take appropriate action; the law will take its course.”

Dr. Saha added that officials had identified persons involved in violence from social media evidence and warned that those found responsible would face consequences.

“They will be held accountable and will not be tolerated,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s visit underlined the government’s focus on both the medical needs of the injured and a firm law-and-order response to the violence.

Hospital officials confirmed that the injured were being treated and that their conditions were being monitored.

Earlier, Tripura BJP Pradesh chief Rajib Bhattacharjee also visited the GB Hospital and talked to the injured persons.

The violence drew large-scale condemnation. Congress and CPIM leaders also vehemently condemned the incident.

However, TIPRA Motha supremo is yet to make any comment, so far.
