Sabroom minor girl abduction: Kokrajhar resident held
Sabroom, Nov 10: In a major breakthrough after three weeks of relentless investigation, Sabroom police have successfully rescued a missing minor girl who had been trafficked across the border to Nepal.
The abductor has also been arrested, marking a significant achievement for the district police.
According to police sources, the case dates back to October 19, when a minor schoolgirl from the Sabroom area mysteriously went missing.
The incident triggered widespread concern, prompting immediate action from the local police. A special team began tracking the suspect’s movements using mobile phone location data, which revealed that the girl had been taken beyond Indian territory and transported to Dong district in Nepal.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, Sabroom police coordinated with their Nepalese counterparts and launched a cross-border operation.
Their persistent efforts paid off when the minor was finally traced to Tulshipur village in Nepal, where she was found in the custody of the abductor’s stepmother.
Following due procedures, the child was safely rescued and brought back to India.
On November 9, the rescued girl was flown back to Sabroom and handed over to her family after a medical check-up and counselling.
Meanwhile, police intensified the manhunt for the accused. By tracking his phone’s location, the team managed to arrest Krishna Thakur, aged 35, a resident of Kokrajhar district in Assam, on November 10.
Speaking on the operation, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar said that the successful rescue was the result of coordinated efforts led by South District Superintendent of Police Moria Krishna, Additional SP (IPS) Vishal Kumar, Officer-in-Charge Apu Das, and the entire investigation team.

Their dedication and cross-border coordination ensured the victim’s safe return within weeks of her disappearance.
Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and further investigation is in progress to determine whether the accused was part of a larger trafficking network.
