T. Lalbiakthanga Trophy in Jampui: Behliangchhip Edge Past Vanghmun
Vanghmun, (Jampui Hill, Tripura) Nov 11: In an electrifying finale that had football fans on the edge of their seats, Behliangchhip village emerged as the champions of the prestigious T. Lalbiakthanga Memorial Football Trophy, defeating archrival Vanghmun village 3–2 after extra time on Tuesday.
The annual inter-village football tournament, organised by the Tripura Group YMA, is one of the most anticipated sporting events in Jampui Hill, drawing enthusiastic participation from all Mizo-inhabited villages across Tripura — from both the hills and the plains.
This year’s edition, held over two weeks at the Vanghmun playground, continued that proud tradition.
As host and perennial favourite, Vanghmun village entered the final with confidence, buoyed by strong performances throughout the tournament.
However, Behliangchhip proved once again to be their toughest rival — having already defeated them in the league stage — and sealed victory in dramatic fashion after a tense battle that went beyond regulation time.

Behliangchhip’s dominance was further underlined by a clean sweep of the tournament’s top individual awards. Biakdika was named Best Player, Sangpuia took home the Best Goalkeeper title, and Mawitea finished as Top Scorer, rounding off a remarkable campaign for the team.
Despite the heartbreak, Vanghmun’s players and supporters displayed sportsmanship and grace in defeat, earning admiration for their exemplary attitude on and off the field.
There was consolation, however, as Vanghmun’s Second Division team claimed the championship title in their category, providing a silver lining for the host village.
The final match was graced by several distinguished guests. Bhaba Ranjan Reang, Executive Member, TTAADC, attended as the Chief Guest and presented the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Among other notable dignitaries present were Justice Arindam Lodh, Chairperson, Tripura Human Rights Commission, along with his team; Dr. Deepak Kumar, IAS, SDM Kanchanpur; and Ashish Kumar Thakur, IPS, SDPO Kanchanpur.
Leaders of local civil societies of Jampui Hill were also in attendance, adding to the prestige and spirit of the occasion.
According to local spors enthusiasts, the T. Lalbiakthanga Memorial Football Trophy stands as a vibrant symbol of unity, competition, and community pride among the Mizo villages of Tripura — and this year’s thrilling final will long be remembered as one of its finest chapters.
