Child Killed, Mother Critical After Brutal Attack in North Tripura
Dharmanagar, Nov 24: A heart-wrenching incident took place today afternoon in Shanichara area of North Tripura.
An eight-year-old student, Amrit Sinha, lost his life after being attacked with sharp weapons by miscreants while returning home from school.
His mother, Bijaya Sinha who was accompanying Amrit, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at Silchar Hospital.
According to police and local sources, after school hours, the mother and son were returning home on a scooter from Bagbasa Covenant English Medium School.
Near Arjun Tilla area in Nadiyapur, a winger vehicle suddenly intercepted their path. A group of attackers then launched a sudden assault with sharp weapons. Leaving the mother and child bleeding on the road, the assailants fled the scene.
Some local passers-by rushed the two to Shanichara Primary Health Centre.
On-duty doctor Arijit Das declared the boy, Amrit, dead on arrival. Bijaya was immediately referred to Silchar Hospital due to her critical injuries. Sources said her condition remains extremely critical.
Local residents claim that this was not an accident but a pre-planned and brutal attack.
They also alleged that despite the incident occurring in broad daylight, the police did not take prompt action for a long time.
In protest against alleged police inaction, angry locals gheraoed the Shanichara Primary Health Centre in the evening, demanding immediate arrest of the real culprits.
Around 6:30 pm, the situation turned more volatile. Losing faith in Churaibari police personnel, locals started a blockade at the Assam–Agartala National Highway No. 8. Vehicular movement came to a complete halt for a long period.
Later, Police reached the spot and are trying to bring the situation under control. An investigation has been initiated, though no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
The blockade also remains in place till the last available report.
Shock and fear have gripped Shanichara following this horrific incident.
Locals are now looking to the police investigation to uncover those responsible behind the attack.
