“These four are the defining traits of the BJP,” Birjit Sinha declared, calling for a united resistance against what he termed as “misrule.”
Agartala (Tripura), July 27: In a blistering attack on the ruling BJP, senior Congress leader and Kailashahar MLA Birjit Sinha accused the saffron party of reducing governance to a mix of propaganda, internal strife, hooliganism, and violence.
“These four are the defining traits of the BJP,” Sinha declared, calling for a united resistance against what he termed as “misrule.”
Sinha made the scathing remarks on Sunday during an extended meeting of the Unakoti District Congress, held at his residence in Paiturbazar. The meeting was chaired by District Congress President Mohammad Badruzzaman and saw the participation of Congress leaders and workers from key areas across the district, including Fatikroy, Kumarghat, Pabiachhara, and Karamchhara.
Strengthening the Grassroots Ahead of ADC Polls
The primary agenda of the meeting was to galvanize the party machinery at the grassroots level ahead of the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. A number of resolutions were passed to intensify organizational activities and widen public outreach.
- Key issues discussed included:
- The ongoing public agitation against smart meters
- Prevention of child marriage
- Expansion of healthcare services
- Anti-drug awareness campaigns
The party announced a series of initiatives such as street meetings, market interactions, courtyard discussions, and public outreach programs to build momentum and engage more directly with the electorate.
Upcoming Protests on Local Issues
The Congress also announced plans to launch protest movements on several pressing local issues, including:
- The deteriorating law-and-order situation in Unakoti district
- Delayed development of the Kailashahar airport
- Improvement of railway connectivity and services
These protests are part of a broader campaign to hold the state government accountable and highlight what the Congress claims are critical governance failures.
“Struggle is the Only Way Forward”: Birjit Sinha
Addressing the gathering, Birajit Sinha emphasized the urgency of organized resistance. “There is no path other than struggle. People are growing increasingly discontented with the BJP’s misrule.

If we can harness this sentiment and strengthen our organization, Congress can reclaim power in Tripura,” he said.
He further warned against complacency, stating that speeches alone won’t revive the party, and that the Congress must stand shoulder to shoulder with the public and lead movements from the ground up.
Unified Call to Action
Speakers at the meeting—Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Vice President Ashwini Debbarma, Shyamal Bhattacharya, and several Youth Congress leaders—echoed Sinha’s sentiments, urging workers to take the party’s message to every household and actively participate in upcoming campaigns.
The meeting concluded with a unified resolve: to transform public dissatisfaction into a political movement that challenges the BJP’s dominance and paves the way for Congress’s resurgence in Tripura.
