May 16, 2018: In Uttar Pradesh, the committees set up by the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister to probe the flyover collapse in Varanasi have started the inquiry. The accident claimed 18 lives and left 12 others injured yesterday.
A three-member high powered committee under the chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner RP Singh set up by the Chief Minister to probe into the unfortunate accident is expected to submit its report by tomorrow.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has also set up a three-member high powered technical committee to ascertain technical reasons behind the accident. The committee has been asked to file its report within 15 days.
Most of the deceased have been identified. A financial assistance of five lakh rupees is being provided to their families. The injured are being given two lakh rupees.
Nine vehicles including a bus, SUVs, auto rickshaws and cars, were crushed under the flyover beams. Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the route. Four officers of UP Bridge Corporation including Chief Project Manager SC Tiwari have been suspended for their alleged lapses. (AIR News)
