Even as the State Government is trying to put the precarious healthcare management system on track, another disturbing instance of negligence and lack of monitoring came to fore at IGM hospital in Agartala on Sunday. Dead body of a Covid19 positive patient was left unattended at the main entrance of the IGM hospital for hours. Common people were found moving around presumably oblivious to the fact it was the corpse of Covid positive patient.
Meanwhile, as per official bulletin, cumulative total number of death increased to 149 on Sunday and yesterday death toll stood at 144. As many as 399 new cases were detected today.
After series of reports of negligence and lapses on part of the healthcare administration hit headlines, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid visit to GBP Hospital on September 02 last and held prolonged discussion with stakeholders and gave instructions to overcome the shortcomings and provide healthcare services to people. Accordingly, several steps have been taken to improve the services.
However, IGM Hospital authority seems to be in no mood to harness its Covid management and monitoring system, sources alleged.
Government’s appeal to people for maintaining social distancing fell flat across the State – no one seems to bother about social distancing. Besides, Political parties are also playing spoilsport and holding gatherings showing scent respect to Covid norms. All parties including ruling alliance BJP-IPFT, Opposition parties like CPIM and Congress can be squarely blamed for ignoring covid norms.
In joining programmes of BJP at Ampi area today, new entrants were seen standing close to other clutching the BJP flag and they did not even use masks or face covers. The same situation was witnessed as Leader of the Opposition and CPIM Politburo member Manik Sarkar was seen putting down his mask below his chin and interacting with ‘mask-less’ persons standing in close proximity.
“If religious festivals like traditional Kharchi Puja could be held in a low key manner without any gatherings, it remains unknown as to why political activities by all the parties could not be stopped. Anything that requires avoiding gatherings must be suspended – Government should rise above the political line and consider safety of people”, city based people argued.
As the Corona threat is looming larger than anticipated, Government and its administration must act decisively to prevent transmission of Corona as well as ensure prompt and proper treatment at all the dedicated Covid Care centers – otherwise a gloomy day is waiting for the people of the State, informed sources said and hoped that Government will live upto the expectation to overcome the challenge.
