The High Court of Tripura on Monday suggested the state government to constitute a monitoring committee to inspect the Covid hospital and also stated that if any committee was formed akin to that, the government is suggested to inform the Court.
“We would request the government to form a team of senior doctors and administrators, who would periodically visit the Covid hospital, inspect the treatment and facilities available at the centre and make recommendations and suggestions to the government. If this is already done, the same should be stated in the affidavit. Reports and suggestions of the team shall be shared with the Court”, the Court ruled.
Hearing a PIL took up by the Court on its own motion, it had also directed the state government to share the findings of two internal inquiries regarding the medical equipment. “There were two internal reports about the quality of medical equipments such as PPE kits, which the government must had obtained. If there was any inquiry leading up to the reports as suggested, the affidavit shall disclose the details thereof”, a division bench of Chief Justice AA Kureshi and Justice S Talapatra ruled.
Speaking on the issue, government advocate Debalaya Bhattacharjee said, “Since the government is not doing tests in the railway stations and airports, the Court has asked the government to reply whether there is any other suitable spot to conduct the testing. The Court has also wanted to know the ratio of testing and their results of last week”.
According to the advocate, the Court had categorically said that the daily testing details must reach to the media for mass awareness. It may be mentioned here that the High Court had earlier taken up the state government’s Covid 19 treatment related matters a suo moto in the wake of media reports of some shortcomings.
After hearing the case first time the High Court Division Bench asked the government to file some more information.
