Agitation by Opposition party, CPIM over Price rise issue at Teliamura in Tripura was called off after clashes broke out allegedly between ruling BJP and CPIM activists on Friday. Tension ran high in the area till the evening.The situation turned for worse after BJP supporters allegedly launched attack on CPIM activists. Police resorted to lathi-charge to diffuse the situation. Local sources said, seven persons were injured in the clash.
In a press statement, Rakhal Majumder on behalf of CPIM Tripura State Committee said, CPIM supporters were scheduled to hold a protest rally at Teliamura condemning the unabated price rise of essential commodities.
“However, BJP brought miscreants to disrupt the rally. The miscreants started threatening the CPIM activists who were preparing to bring out the rally. Sensing the possibility of bloody clashes, we called off the rally. Even after that BJP backed goons attacked CPIM activists in presence of security personnel. Goons tried to barge into Party office by breaking the front gate. Miscreants vandalized bikes and the mayhem continued in Teliamura for 5-6 hours”, Rakhal Majumder alleged.
According CPIM State Committee’s statement as many as nine party workers were injured while two of them had been admitted in the sub-divisional hospital. CPIM State Committee condemned the attack and demanded arrests of persons involved in the attack.
Local sources said, “In the wake of the attack, CPIM activists and leaders remained gheroaed at the Party office. Later, with the help of Police, CPIM activists returned to their homes. Tension at Teliamura is prevailing.
Even as CPIM called off their pre-scheduled rally, Congress supporters hit the street protesting against three Farm Bills. “Congress activists squatted on National Highway at Ampi Choumuhani as part of the protest against Agriculture Bills without any resistance”, local sources said and added, Pradesh Congress general secretary Baptu Chakraborty, NSUI state president Rakesh Das and Youth Congress district president Anirban Sarkar led the agitation. Later Police intervened and after minor scuffle, Congress activists were dispersed.
