Referring to violence in Khowai, CPIM leaders slammed the BJP-IPFT led Tripura Government and appealed to bring the perpetrators on book and ensure peace in the sub-division. A team of CPIM led by Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar visited several violence hit areas and interacted with the ‘victims’.
Manik Sarkar flayed the ruling party and urged the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb – also the Home Minister – to take up the challenge and rein in the miscreants responsible for the violence. In a hard hitting statement while addressing media at Khowai on Monday, Manik Sarkar said, “Miscreants were used to cover up the failures of the ruling government. Now miscreants have become uncontrollable. It is responsibility of the State government, for the sake of common people, to bring an end to ongoing violent activities of goons”.
Notably, for past couple of days, Khowai is witnessing attacks on CPM supporters. Even as incidences of violence were reported to administration, it is learnt that the onslaught continued for last few days and Police reportedly failed to nab the culprits and ensure safety of CPIM supporters.
In the wake of attacks on CPIM activists, Manik Sarkar and other CPM leaders including Aghore Debbarma visited the violence-hit areas and later held a press conference.
Addressing media, Sarkar said, “Goons of the saffron party have been divided into two factions. One section has ‘retired’ from violent activities after realizing violent acts won’t serve their personal interests. However, another group is still active and unleashing violence throwing challenge to the Government”.
He further said, the way ruling party encouraged goons against CPIM activists after one Mandal office in Khowai was set ablaze, is noteworthy – this has encouraged the miscreants to let loose in areas across the Khowai sub-division.
Terming the violence as ‘Middle-age barbaric’ attack, Aghore Debbarma also urged the Government to ensure peace and end the ongoing violence. CPM State secretary Gautam Das also detailed about attacks conducted on party supporters since after BJP-IPFT alliance came into power.
