Delegates from countries under G20 arrived in Agartala in a special flight from New Delhi on Sunday (April 2) to take part in the science summit of G20 countries – Science20 (S20). The S20 will commence at the Indoor hall of Hapania International Fair Ground in Agartala on April 3.
The S20 will be held in Agartala on ‘Clean Energy for Greener Future’ under the central theme ‘Disruptive Science for Innovative and Sustainable Development’. The Venue was decorated to host the event in a grand style.

After the delegates arrived at Agartala MBB Airport, the delegates were received in the traditional manner by putting ‘Mangal Tilak’ on their foreheads. They were welcomed with traditional Risa – a hand-woven cloth that reflects the culture of the State. Cultural troupes presented performances much to the delight of the delegates.
The mesmerizing beauty of the MBB Airport also caught the eyes of the visiting delegates and many were seen taking selfies happily.
In two special buses, they reached a private Hotel. On their way to the Hotel, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers welcomed them with flags of various member countries of G20.
A tight security blanket was thrown in the city to ensure the security and safety of delegates comprising national and foreign countries participants of G20 countries. Road sides were illuminated, trees were decorated with colourful lights, road side walls with paintings and other main points of the city were also decorated.
Later, in the evening, the S20 delegates visited Albert Ekka Memorial at Lichubagan in Agartala. They put wrath on the memorial and planted saplings there. Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Sailesh Yadav briefed the delegates about Albert Ekka and his supreme sacrifice during Bangladesh Liberation war. They next visited Kumaritilla lake where the first screening of the musical fountain was held.
The delegates along with the officials attended a dinner party at Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma and others were present at the dinner party.
Talking about the S20 summit of G20 countries in Agartala, Dr Saha wrote on social media, “The #G20 Summit is an opportunity for Tripura, a unique blend of rich culture, tradition & nature, to showcase its potential sectors including Tourism before the world. The event will serve as a crucial platform to address key issues on the theme ‘Clean Energy for a Greener Future’.”
