Agartala (Tripura), June 30: As the country gears up to pay tributes to physicians on ‘Doctors’ Day’, on July 1, AGMC and GBP Hospital in Agartala scripted success in kidney transplant for the third time. The laudable efforts of the doctors came up on Monday (June 30), a day ahead of the Doctors’ Day making the successful transplant a notable achievement.
The Kidney transplant was executed by jointly medical experts from Shija Hospital & Research Institute, Manipur alongside specialists from the Urology and Nephrology departments of GBP Hospital, Agartala.
Beaming with pride and satisfaction, Dr Kanak Chowdhury, the Deputy Superintendent of the GBP Hospital said that both the Kidney donor and recipient – they both hail from Radhanagar area in Agartala – are currently in stable condition.
Referring to previous two kidney transplant procedures at the GBP Hospital, Dr Chowdhury said in both the previous cases, the donors and recipients are in good conditions.
Notably, the first ever Kidney Transplant in the GBP Hospital, also in collaboration with Manipur’s Shija Hospital and Research Institutes, was done on June 8, 2024. In that case, a 20 year old Subham Sutradhar’s life was saved after receiving kidney from his mother Munna Saha Sutradhar. The second such procedure was conducted in November 2024.
Commenting on three successive successful kidney transplants within a year, a senior medical professional highlighted that such accomplishment underscores the hospital’s evolving proficiency and its dedication to delivering advanced healthcare services.
The achievement, ahead of the Doctors’ Day, added more value. Doctors’ Day in India is observed every year on July 1st – on the day of birthday of legendry physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. The day serves as a tribute to doctors for their dedication, compassion, and tireless service in healing and saving lives. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the crucial role that doctors play in maintaining public health.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised the medical team’s efforts and congratulated them on the successful surgery.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, he said, “On the eve of Doctors’ Day, I am pleased to announce that the medical team at AGMC & GBP Hospital, in partnership with doctors from Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Manipur, has successfully conducted their third kidney transplant.
