Agartala (Tripura) Jul 22: Justice Mamidanna Satyaratna Ramachandra Rao was officially sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on Monday.
He becomes the 9th Chief Justice to lead the High Court since its establishment.
Justice Deepak Gupta (23 March 2013 to 16 May 2016) was the first CJ of the High Court of Tripura.
Following Justice Deepak Gupta’s tenure, Justices T Vaiphei, Ajay Rastogi, Sanjoy Karol, Akhil Kureshi, Indrajit Mahanty, Jaswant Singh, Aparesh Kumar Singh and today, Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao became the CJ of the High Court of Tripura.
The oath of office was administered by Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu during a solemn ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Agartala.

Following the ceremony, Justice Ramachandra Rao assumed charge at the High Court bench the same day.

The event witnessed the presence of several prominent figures from the state government and judiciary.
Among those in attendance were Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Also present were Tripura High Court Justices T. Amarnath Goud, Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha, Biswajit Palit, and former Justice Arindam Lodh, along with other distinguished guests.

Before taking over the role in Tripura, Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao served as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. His judicial career spans decades, during which he has held various key positions in the Indian judiciary.
Transition of Judicial Leadership in Tripura
Justice Ramachandra Rao succeeds Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, who was recently appointed as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
Justice Singh was sworn in at the Raj Bhavan in Telangana by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and departed from Tripura on July 15.

In the interim, Justice T. Amarnath Goud served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, ensuring continuity in judicial functioning.
With the appointment of Justice Ramachandra Rao, the number of sitting judges at the Tripura High Court has increased to four.
