ADB Funds Bolster Tripura's Industrial Infrastructure for 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'

The Tripura government will improve the infrastructure in 13 industrial estates in the state with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) and "Make in India," as the Tripura government places a renewed emphasis on industrial growth within the state.

In an official press statement, the government highlighted its proactive efforts to attract global investments in various sectors, including Rubber, Bamboo, Tea, Gas, Agriculture, and Horticulture, emphasizing its commitment to fostering economic development and job creation.

Viswashree B., the Director of the Industries and Commerce Department, announced that financial support had been secured from the Asian Development Bank for infrastructure upgradation in 13 industrial estates spanning six districts of the state.

According to the Director, the Asian Development Bank had already sanctioned a loan of Rs. 16 crore in 2022 as part of the project readiness fund. Subsequently, in March of the current year, the state government submitted a proposal requesting Rs. 1200 crore for the main project. This comprehensive proposal included ADB's contribution of $120 million and the state's commitment of $30 million.

The Director further stated that the project had received approval during a meeting of the Screening Committee of the Department of Economic Affairs on August 31, marking it as one of the state's major initiatives for infrastructure development.

The allocated funds will be directed toward the development of various industrial estates, including Bodhjungnagar, R.K. Nagar, Dukli, Kumarghat, Dhwajanagar, Dewanpasha, and others. These development efforts are set to cover approximately 1200 acres of land, with 800 acres dedicated to industrial setups and 400 acres designated for complementary facilities.

This ambitious project is expected to pave the way for the establishment of more than 500 industrial units within the state. The Director expressed optimism that this initiative would usher in a new era of socio-economic development in Tripura, contributing significantly to the region's progress and prosperity.
