Neermahal Shines Amid NEC Plenary Session in Agartala, Hosts VVIPs and Tourists Alike

While the spotlight remained on the 72nd NEC Plenary Session chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Agartala, the iconic Neermahal - the water palace situated on Rudrasagar Lake in Sepahijala District, Tripura - became the center of attention with a series of high-profile visits and vibrant activities on December 21-22.

Among the notable visitors was Sonal Shah, wife of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited the picturesque Neermahal on Saturday.

Her visit, cloaked in secrecy, unfolded under the misty winter skies of Rudrasagar, away from media attention.

She spent time enjoying the serene beauty of the palace and its surroundings.
Notably, the Neermahal or Water Palace was built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya. The Neermahal is a blend of Mughal and Hindu architectural styles.

Neermahal Shines Amid NEC Plenary Session in AgartalaFollowing her visit, dignitaries including the Governors of Meghalaya, C.H. Vijay Shankar, and Mizoram, Dr. Hari Babu, as well as Assam's Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, arrived at Neermahal on Sunday.

The influx of VVIPs kept administrative officials, including Sonamura SDM Mahendra Kamamb Chakma and local police, on their toes over the weekend.

Amid these visits, Neermahal also attracted a significant number of tourists and picnic-goers. According to sources, approximately 1,500 people thronged Rudrasagar and Neermahal on Sunday alone, and local authorities anticipate even larger crowds in the coming days.

Adding to the lively atmosphere, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been hosting special events at Rajghat on the eastern bank of Rudrasagar since December 20 to celebrate its 60th Foundation Day.

The festivities include food stalls offering delicacies from various Indian states at affordable prices.

These stalls have become a major draw, with visitors forming long queues to sample the regional flavors. Initially scheduled to conclude on Sunday, the food fair was extended until Monday, December 23, following overwhelming public demand.

The Chairman of the Rudrasagar Refugee Fishermen's Cooperative Society, Pabitra Kumar Das, expressed his delight at the vibrant activities taking place.

He, along with other members including Secretary Parameswar Das, has been actively involved in welcoming dignitaries, tourists, and locals.

They have ensured the smooth functioning of the BSF’s food fair and addressed any issues faced by visitors.

“The buzz around Rudrasagar is truly heartening. We’re witnessing an increasing number of visitors, and we expect this trend to continue in the coming days,” Das said.

Neermahal’s scenic charm, coupled with the festive fervor, has turned the area into a bustling hub of activity and with the conduct of recent Tourism Promo Fest, Neermahal further garnered attention of people.
