After a long gap, Tripura reported more than 20 Covid19 positive cases in a single day. As many as 21 new persons have tested coronavirus positive, a Covid media report circulated from the department of Health and Family Welfare said this on Friday.
As per the report, altogether 581 samples were tested out of which nine samples tested positive. However, West Tripura district magistrate Sailesh Kumar Yadav later confirmed that the numbers of cases have already touched the 21 mark.
According to sources, the newly infected persons included four junior resident doctors, some health staff and a pregnant woman admitted at the Tripura Medical College and DR BRAM hospital in Agartala.
Accordingly, in apprehension of further spread District Magistrate West Tripura Saliesh Kumar Yadav ordered to stop the outdoor services of the hospital. As per the DM’s order, the reports of positive cases are increasing in the last two days—February 18 and 19 last.
“There has been a sudden rise in the number of cases of Covid 19 positive cases among the staff of Tripura medical college & Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching hospital, Hapania, Tripura within two days”, the order added and ordered that routine OPD services would be stopped.
According to sources, the health department has already started the contact tracing process to identify the close contacts of the infected persons.
If sources are to be believed, the infection spread from a marriage ceremony where safety protocols have been not adhered. Notably, after vaccination started and Covid19 situation in State remarkably improved, people became complacent and most of them started eschewing masks in public places as well as stopped frequent use of sanitizers.
With Book Fair coming up later in this month, it is time that administration, once again, stress on strict adherence to Covid19 protocol. Otherwise situation may deteriorate, experts cautioned.
Meanwhile, it is also worthy to be mentioned here that the case of Covid 19 cases were reported in ones and twos since the beginning of the year but TMC hospital emerged as a new hotspot of the infection.
