Civic Polls in Tripura: Cong to contest in all seats, TIPRA Motha to make debut

Tripura PCC chief Birajit Sinha announced on Saturday that Congress would contest in all the seats in upcoming Civic Body Polls in the State. Meanwhile, regional party TIPRA Motha will make debut in the civic polls also, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the chairman of the party said today.

Birajit Sinha while announcing decision to fight in all civic bodies also sounded a warning against any sorts of intimidation in the run-up to civic body polls on November 25 next.

Addressing a press meet in Agartala on Saturday, Sinha said, “We have held a PCC meeting and also a meeting with leaders of all the constituencies to discuss upcoming civic body poll preparedness. We will contest in all the Civic Bodies”.   He alleged, violence marred the panchayat polls where opposition candidates and activists were intimidated and attacked.

Referring to such incidents, Sinha also expressed hope that the State Election Commission would act impartially and protect the democratic rights of the Opposition. “If there is any intimidation, we will hold civil disobedience movement repeatedly – but will not allow the ruling party to create fear psychosis”, Sinha said.

Announcing that Congress would contest in all the Civic Bodies across the State, Sinha urged the erudite persons of Agartala to come forward and to apply for contesting in AMC Polls on Congress ticket within October 27 next.

TIPRA Motha, floated just before the District Council polls in Tripura around six months ago, will also contest in the ensuing Civic body polls on November 25 next. Party chairman Pradyout Kishore Debbarman said on Saturday while live-streaming his message through social media. He, however, did not talk about forging an alliance with any party.

“TIPRA Motha will struggle for Tiprasa people, not only from ADC areas but also from town and city areas. For the first time in Tripura, a regional party, TIPRA Motha will take part in civic body polls and contest to win”, Debbarman said.

Commenting on the civic body poll, he said that the party would hold a meeting to take a final call relating to the Civic Body polls. The Party will contest in seats where ‘winnability’ is feasible.

Talking about party programmes, Debbarman pointed out the TIPRA Motha is striding forward keeping an eye on Assembly Polls in 2023.

“Our prime focus is on Assembly Polls in 2023. We are preparing for the Polls. Our Delhi Abhiyan will be held soon. A total of 1200 supporters will go to Delhi and I along with the supporters will hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar”, he said.
