The state-based Indian Language Day celebration will be held on December 11 in Tripura. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the event at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
The theme of this year’s Indian Language Day is “Many Languages, One Thought”, said Special Secretary to the Education Department, Ravel Hemendra Kumar.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, he said according to the decision of the Ministry of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India, from this year onwards, 11th December will be celebrated as Indian Language Day every year.
The special secretary said that multilingualism is the foundation of unity in India’s diversity. This program has been taken up with the main objective of knowing about each other’s languages and encouraging the youth in this regard.
The special secretary also said the decision was taken to celebrate 11th December as Indian Language Day every year centering on the birthday of the famous Tamil poet C Subramania Bharati. Apart from being a freedom fighter, C Subramania Bharati was a pioneer of Tamil poetry. As part of the celebration of Indian Language Day, various programs have been organized in different schools, colleges and educational institutions since 28th September and it will be concluded with the celebration of Indian Language Day on 11th December.
H Ravel Kumar said the programmes included online essay competition, talk show on Indian Language Day, publication of books, cultural program of multilingual speakers, district-based programs.
He said that AICTEE has developed a language translation application tool called ANUVADINI to celebrate Indian Language Day.
This application tool will help in translating different languages.
The special secretary also said that programs are organized from time to time centering on language. International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on 21st February in the wake of UNESCO’s declaration to honor and promote mother tongue.
The Director of the Higher Education Department, N C Sharma, was also present at the press conference.
