Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has sounded alert bell on Friday in view of emerging Covid19 situation in the country as well as in the State.
He also said, National general secretary of BJP JP Nadda was scheduled to visit Tripura. However, keeping in mind the prevailing Covid situation, his visit has been cancelled.
Speaking to the media in Agartala today, Deb said, Tripura Government will take all the necessary administrative measures in the wake of growing Covid menace.
“We have already made 100 percent Covid testing mandatory for the passengers arriving in State by planes. Earlier, testing was not mandatory for air passengers with double vaccination certificates”, the Chief Minister said.
Explaining further, he said prevalence of Covid in Tripura not very high as of now – however, it is high in other States, especially in our neighbouring States like West Bengal. In this connection, he also pointed out that similar tests would be made mandatory in Rail Stations and Churaibari gate – the entry point of Tripura from outside by road.
He also appealed to people to be alert and said we are all aware about Covid appropriate behavior like wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, night curfew, quarantining etc. and we have to take precautionary steps from now. He sought cooperation from people and hoped that if we could follow Civid appropriate behavior for at least 50 days, we would be able to overcome the challenge.
Deb made it clear that a meeting with the Chief Secretary and concerned officials would be held on Saturday and precautionary measures would be announced thereafter.
Meanwhile, according to Covid surveillance report, as on January 7, a total of 3330 samples were tested out of which 103 persons were found Covid Positive. Among the eight districts, West District recorded the highest number of positive cases (62) today followed by North (14), Sepahijala (8), South district (7), Dhalai (5), Gomati (4), Unakoti (2) and Khowai (1).
