Covid wave: Tripura CPM leader demands more testing

As the second wave of Covid19 is raging through the country, it is imperative for the Tripura Government to expand the ambit of testing. Deputy Opposition Leader and veteran CPM leader Badal Chowdhury said this in Agartala on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Chowdhury said, “With the requirement of more testing in present circumstances, the workload on GB Hospital is mounting and it is necessary to start Covid testing at district and sub-divisional hospitals to take the testing facility in the rural areas”.

Apart from emphasizing larger testing, Badal Chowdhury also demanded aggressive rolling out of vaccination drive so that all the targeted people could be inoculated.

He lamented that the State Government was not doing all the things necessary to combat the second wave. People are grossly violating Covid norms and roaming around without wearing a mask – however, barring few exceptions, the administration is not taking any steps against the violators. He demanded stringent implementation of Covid norms across the State. In this connection, Chowdhury made reference to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister for not encouraging people to follow the Covid norms – at least, wearing a mask.

Amidst the growing threat of Covid second wave, ADC Polls were held in Tripura. Many people living in the ADC area are facing a tough situation and going through a food crisis. In this connection, Chowdhury said, rice at Rs 5 per kg is being distributed in 10 blocks, however, he demanded expansion of this facility and bring all the BPL families under this scheme.

“Considering the emerging situation, we are demanding that the existing scheme of distribution of rice at Rs 5 per kg should be expanded to cover all the BPL families of ADC areas”, Chowdhury said.
