The School Education Department under the Tripura Government has suspended three teachers of Champaknagar Higher Secondary School for gross dereliction of duty on Friday.
The suspension came up following allegations of attempted molestation against a group of schoolgirls returning from an educational trip.
As the matter came to the notice of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the portfolio of Education Minister, Dr Saha directed the department to take strict action to ensure discipline in the educational institution and safeguard students’ well-being.
Accordingly, concerned teachers were promptly suspended by the Education Department.
The suspended teachers are Gauri Majumdar, Rupa Debnath, and Kumkum Das, all of whom are graduate teachers.
It was alleged teachers accompanying the students left after handing them over to the driver and co-drivers of the vehicle used to carry the teachers and students.
According to the students, the driver and co-driver attempted to molest them.
As the report of alleged molestation bid surfaced, widespread anger and tension prevailed at the Champaknagar area.
The aggrieved locals and parents of the students blocked the Assam-Agartala National Highway on Thursday demanding the immediate arrest of the driver and co-driver.
Parents also expressed their outrage against the school teachers, holding them responsible for the incident and demanding their dismissal.
Meantime, Police sources confirm that the driver and co-driver have been arrested based on the complaints.
An investigation is underway, and the local administration has pledged to take strong action against those found responsible.
Sources said, the state government remains firmly committed to providing a fear-free and secure learning environment for students.
