Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha lauded the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) for its exemplary service to the nation and its contribution to maintaining peace and harmony in the state. He emphasized the role of TSR troopers in combating insurgency in the State.
Addressing a gathering at Binan Kobra Para in Mandwi, where he visited the second battalion of the TSR and participated in Diwali celebrations, the Chief Minister said, "The TSR jawans, with their valor and camaraderie, have made the state proud. Their achievements are no less than any other police force in the country. The force has earned a good reputation across the nation."
Six-point plan for TSR's development:
The Chief Minister announced a six-point plan for the overall development of the TSR force. These include an increase in ration money from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000, a hike in dress allowance from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 for all ranks, the establishment of a gymnasium in every battalion with an allocation of Rs 5 lakh, and an increase in the honorarium for medical officers willing to serve in the TSR battalions to Rs 60,000 per month. Besides, 240 jawans will be promoted on an ad-hoc basis, and Rs 5 crore will be allocated for the repair and maintenance of TSR posts and barracks. Notably, there are 14 battalions of TSR in the State.
TSR's diverse roles:
In his speech, Dr Saha highlighted the diverse roles played by the TSR force, which include maintaining law and order, disaster management, industrial security, VIP security, and anti-drug operations. The TSR has also been deployed in various states for elections and has been stationed in Delhi to guard sensitive areas like Parliament Street and embassies.
Sacrifices made by TSR jawans:
Since its establishment in 1990, the second battalion of the TSR has lost 16 jawans in the fight against insurgency. The Chief Minister also praised the TSR jawans for their role in rescuing people during the recent floods in the state.
Highlighting the government's commitment to women empowerment, Dr Saha mentioned that for the first time, 137 women have been recruited into the TSR.
The Chief Minister concluded by saying that the TSR has established its identity as the "Pride of Tripura" and has played a crucial role in creating a sense of security among the people of the state.
