IPL match at Guwahati brought another chance to showcase the vibrancy of Tripura’s Hojagiri dance before cricket fans across the country and abroad.
For the first time, an Indian Premier League (IPL) was held at the ACA stadium at Barsapara in Assam. The game was played between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings on Wednesday (April 5). Before the keenly contested match started, extravagant opening ceremonies were held which witnessed traditional dance forms of each state of the North East including Tripura, apart from performances by some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
The highlight of the event was the stunning 'Hojagiri' dance form of Tripura. This indigenous dance form already received appreciation for its acrobatic and rhythmic styles. Dancers dressed in traditional indigenous community attire presented the dance before the cricket fans. The richness and vibrancy of the cultural heritage of Tripura and other NE States mesmerized the players of both teams.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma received whole-hearted greetings from Tripura for giving chance to the Hojagiri dance to be performed at the IPL and promote the rich cultural heritage of the North East on a global platform.
In a tweet, Minister Sukla Charan Noatia acknowledge it on Thursday (April 6) and wrote, "Thank you to the honourable Chief Minister of Assam, @himantabiswa, for the efforts to showcase our Reang community's best dance performances, including the Hojagiri dance, at the stadium in Guwahati during the start of the IPL games yesterday, in an attempt to take the dance form to the world stage."
