Kalyanpur rape fallout: Communal tension prevailed, Pradyot visits, calls for harmony and justice

A rapist is a criminal and should not be judged on the basis of any community or religion, said Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Friday (October 28) during his Kalyanpur visit where communal tension prevailed after a minor girl was gang raped recently.

 

Tipra-Motha-Pradyot-Kalyanpur-rapeSome of the angry villagers who were demanding arrests of the culprits involved in the rape case ransacked several shops and residence of a ration shop dealer of a particular community at Khas Kalyanpur on October 27 night.

 

As a result, panic and tension were running high in the area and the situation was threatening to take a turn for worse.   

 

Amidst the palpable tension, Tipra Motha chairman Pradyot Kishor Debbarma went to Kalyanpur on October 28 to quell the tension and ensure harmony.  He was accompanied by EM Kamal Kaloi, Chitta Ranjan Debbarma and others. He also visited the house of the rape victim.

“I reiterate, a Rapist is a Rapist! He should not be identified on the basis of his caste, creed, religion, party or any other identity. We stand united against this heinous act and shall continue to fight for justice. Visited the family of the alleged rape victim and also met the police for a speedy justice today at Kalyanpur ! …”, he wrote in Facebook today.

 

enewstime-Tipra-Motha-Pradyot-Kalyanpur-rapeThe Tipra Motha chairman said he had a discussion with the higher authority of the Khowai district relating to the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the rape case.

 

In the gang rape case, Police managed to arrest two accused, so far out the four persons named in the FIR.

 

 Local people and political parties including the women wing of ruling BJP are demanding immediate arrests of the culprits and stern punitive actions.

 

A delegation of the indigenous youth wing of the Left Front also visited the victim’s house and expressed solidarity.

 

BJP Mahila Morcha leaders met SDPO of Teliamura Prasun Kanti Tripura and demanded to act without considering political affiliation of the accused persons.   

 

Meantime, an All Party peace meeting was held at Kalyanpur PS on Friday in presence of Additional SP of Khowai District Rajdip Deb, SDPO Teliamura Prasun Kanti Tripura and OC of Kalyanpur PS Uddyam Debbarma.

 

In the peace meeting, Opposition parties wanted to know as to why the Upa-Pradhan of West Dwarikapur Panchayat – one of the accused persons - could not be arrested so far.

 

Notably, Police had already arrested two – Tapas Debnath and a Panchayat member Aditya Das  The administration urged people to maintain communal harmony and assured Police are working hard to arrest the remaining accused persons.
