LS polls in Tripura: Manik Sarkar Warns of Threats to Democracy, Religious Freedom
Religious freedom, democracy and the Constitution are under attack. Common people are burdened with price hike and decreasing value of Rupee.
In view of these factors, a change in the power for an alternative to present dispensation is needed, commented CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar during an election rally at Amarpur under the East Tripura Parliamentary constituency on Thursday.
The rally was held in support of INDIA bloc candidate Rajendra Reang, a CPIM leader from the East LS seat today.
Giving a call to strengthen the anti-BJP forces, Sarkar said, The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and the right to practice religion. However, this is under attack now and how far this right would remain protected will depend on the outcome of the Lok Sabha Poll results.
He shifted to the issue of democracy and alleged the voices of the Opposition parties are being throttled -only the voice of the ruling party is heard even as the Parliamentary democracy allows Opposition parties to raise their voices and concerns. The prevailing trend indicates attempts to destroy parliamentary democracy, the CPIM leader alleged.
Sarkar also commented on the prevailing economic situation of the country. He referred to the issue of price hikes, fall in the value of Rupee etc and asked who is responsible for these.
He also highlighted the alleged socio-economic deprivation of common people. In this connection, Sarkar criticized the capitalist production system and blamed it for exploiting the common people.
Sarkar mentioned about the resolution taken in the last party Congress in Kerala about forming an alternative and anti-BJP front to safeguard the constitution, democracy and interests of commoners.
Considering the present political and economic scenario, an alternative to the ruling party is necessary. It is pertinent that secular and democratic forces join hands to ensure defeat of the ruling dispensation. The alternative will also ensure that prevailing economic issues are being addressed properly to lessen the burden on the common people.
In his over an hour long speech, the Politburo leader appealed to all sections of society to be united and support the INDIA bloc.
