Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti revealed Tripura has seen a substantial rise in financial support for rural development under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) since the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi began in 2014.
Speaking at a press conference held in the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate's office, the minister shared significant details regarding the state's developmental progress.
Between 2006 and 2013-14, Tripura had received a total of Rs. 4,558 crore under MGNREGA, and during this period, 1,04,970 houses were constructed under the Indira Awaas Yojana housing scheme in the State.
However, since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure commenced in 2014, Tripura's financial allocation under MGNREGA nearly doubled, reaching a substantial sum of Rs. 8,351 crore.
In addition to this, over the past nine years, the state witnessed the construction of 2,94,911 houses under the Housing Scheme, demonstrating a remarkable improvement in the implementation of the Scheme.
Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti expressed her appreciation for the prudent utilization of funds, noting that approximately 90 percent of the funds allocated under MGNREGA have been expended within Tripura.
She extended her thanks to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for the effective management of these funds, attributing the state's progress to the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Union Minister pointed out that in conjunction with housing facilities, disadvantaged sections of the population have also benefitted from free gas connections, toilets, and access to clean drinking water. Furthermore, she highlighted the significant fund allocation for Tripura under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, which has further contributed to the state's development.
The press conference was attended by Special Secretary to the Rural Development Department, Sandeep R. Rathod, and West Tripura District Magistrate, Debapriya Bardhan, among other officials, emphasizing the collaborative effort to drive development in the region.
Earlier the MoS for the Rural Development went to places under Mohanpur Block in the West Tripura District and interacted with the SHG members. She said many SHGs from Tripura are participating in the exhibition at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. People appreciated the products.
