Union Home Minister Amit Shah and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia are scheduled to attend the upcoming two-day meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) which will be held in Agartala, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Speaking to the media, Dr Saha said the two-day NEC Meeting in Agartala is scheduled to commence on August 31.
He said, Chief Ministers and Governors of the North East States will attend the Meeting in Agartala. Dr Saha informed the media that preparations are going on for successful hosting of the NEC meeting and he would soon chair a review meeting to oversee the preparations.
The NEC Meeting in Agartala assumes significance as this will be the first meeting after regime change in Bangladesh following Sheikh Hasina's outster. Future of several connectivity related mega projects like Maitri Setu and rail link via Bangladesh etc has become uncertain and bustling Indo-Bangla trade through Tripura has also affected.
In this backdrop, the NEC meeting in Tripura seems to be a crucial exercise.
Talking about the likely issues the State government put up and discuss in the meeting, the Tripura Chief Minister said that apart from the border issues and development projects, implementation of innovative initiatives would be discussed.
"We have a porous international border with Bangladesh, it will certainly be discussed in the meeting," Dr Saha said and added the meeting will also focus on several issues pertaining to development of the State as well as the other States of the North East region.
He told the media, "We will also highlight the projects implemented in Tripura with an emphasis on innovative projects and implementation. Other States of will also highlight their achievements in the meeting".
As the State is gearing up to host first NEC meeting in Tripura, Dr Saha will hold a review meeting to monitor the arrangements for the visiting dignitaries.

The NEC, a regional planning and statutory advisory body for the eight northeastern states including Sikkim, was constituted under the North Eastern Council Act, 1971, and came into being on November 7, 1972, with its headquarters in Meghalaya capital Shillong.
The NEC is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the northeastern region which consists of eight states -- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
The Union Home Minister is the ex-Officio Chairman while the DoNER Minister is the ex-Officio Vice-Chairman of the NEC.
