Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy, has called on the Central Government to approve a special financial package for infrastructure development in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Speaking at the Pre-Central Budget Meeting held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Friday, Singha Roy also urged the prompt release of the remaining funds under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to address flood-related damages in the state.
Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday chaired the pre-budget consultations with Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories (with Legislature)
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their ongoing support of the development of the North Eastern states, Singha Roy highlighted the significant progress made in Tripura under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister. He outlined several key issues for consideration by the Government of India to further accelerate the state's development.
During the meeting, Singha Roy requested the release of the pending NDRF allocation of Rs 14,247 crore to mitigate the impact of recent floods in Tripura.
Besides, he appealed for a special financial package of Rs 500 crore to bolster infrastructure development in the TTAADC.
The Finance Minister also urged the removal of the ceiling on Externally Aided Projects (EAP) currently in place until 2025-26. He advocated for increased allocation under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, recommending the removal of certain conditionalities to enhance state-level development.
Furthermore, Singha Roy called for the establishment of premier institutions such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Tripura.
He emphasized that an AIIMS would address the state's super-speciality medical needs, while IIT and IIM campuses would provide world-class educational opportunities for the people of Tripura.
The meeting was also attended by Akinchan Sarkar, Additional Secretary of the Finance Department, who accompanied the Finance Minister in presenting these critical proposals.
