Shuttle Service launched from Akhaura Border to MBB Airport in Tripura

A shuttle service was launched from Akhaura border on the occasion of the 11th Foundation Day of Land Port Agartala on Friday. The service is intended to provide a convenient and affordable transportation option for Bangladeshi nationals traveling to MBB Airport.

The shuttle service was flagged off by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder in the presence of MLA Surajit Dutta, Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Arif MD, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Majumder said, “The shuttle service has been launched for the convenience of the Bangladeshi passengers that will ease their travel to Agartala airport that too at a very low cost”.

He also hailed the “immensely developed” transportation services in the recent days under Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government in state.

“The number of Bangladeshi passengers travelling to India through Agartala’s Akhaura Check Post has increased unprecedentedly which has been possible only because of the improved services”, he said.

“A large part of our air services depend on the Bangladeshi passengers which is adding to a lift in the state’s economy”, he added.

“Majumder said, “Over the past 10 years, various services have been introduced by the port to facilitate Bangladeshi passengers and to improve and strengthen the communication system between the two countries. As a result, there has been a drastic change in the annual passenger traffic figures over the last 10 years”.

Speaking about the shuttle service, he said, “With the increase in passenger traffic and import-export trade, there has been an improvement in the lives of people working in various sectors associated with the port. Bangladeshi passengers travel to different parts of India every day for treatment and other purposes though this land port. The shuttle service will help them to reach the Agartala airport at low cost”.

Majumder also spoke on the cordial ties with the neighbouring country, Bangladesh that has also seen advancement in recent years.

Besides, further beautification of the Land Port, introduction of multi-purpose services and entertainment facilities including a cafeteria for passengers will be implemented in the coming days.

Meanwhile, to mark the foundation day of the port, flags of both the countries were hoisted by the dignitaries and also a blood donation camp was organized by the BSF jawans.
