The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to spotlight Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stature as a 'global leader' during the upcoming special parliamentary session scheduled to span five days from September 18.
This session marks the 13th sitting of the 17th Lok Sabha and the 261st session of the Rajya Sabha, with expectations that the government may introduce and pass significant bills or proposals during this unique gathering.
One potential inclusion could be the Women's Reservation Bill following the Justice Rohini Commission report.
Inside sources suggest that the Narendra Modi government aims to liberate the nation and its citizens from the 'slavery' mindset and any associated symbols during this special session, even considering replacing 'India' with 'Bharat' in the Constitution.
This shift in terminology was observed when the Central government referred to both the President and Prime Minister as 'Bharat' during events related to the recently-concluded G20 Summit in Delhi.
In response to queries from opposition parties regarding the session's agenda, the Central government released details in accordance with parliamentary rules. The agenda includes discussions on India's achievements in 75 years of independence, spanning from the Constituent Assembly era to the present. Additionally, four bills have been slated for consideration during the special session.
The BJP has directed all its MPs to be present throughout the entire five-day session. A senior BJP leader explained that during the discussions, party members will highlight the government's accomplishments. They aim to showcase India's growing global influence under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, as demonstrated by the successful G20 Summit and the remarkable progress of India's space program, epitomized by the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
A government minister added that the government aspires to make this special session a historic event in Indian parliamentary history by examining India's achievements in 75 years of independence and outlining a vision for the nation's development over the next 25 years. (Edited)
