Bharatiya Janata Party’s leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Hangsha Kumar Tripura quit the saffron party and joined TTAADC which is in power at the District Council.
In a social media post, chief of Tipra Motha Pradyut Kishore Debbarma welcomed Hangsha Kumar into the party. Debbarma said, Hangsha Kumar joined Tipra Motha in a mass joining programme at Manikpur in Chaumanu under Dhalai district in Tripura on Tuesday (August 23).
According to the Tipra Motha Chief, total 6000 people joined Tipra Motha along with Hangsha Kumar today.
In view of the upcoming Village Council Polls in TTAADC, the move may prove to be crucial.
Hangsha Kumar joined Tipra Motha on the day of the 39th ADC Diwas. Also, Tipra Motha held rallies and submitted memoranda to the Governor through the SDMs across the State today in support of ‘Greater Tipraland’ – the core demand of the Tipra Motha.
Political mercury soared high at Mungiyakami in Tripura after alleged Tipra Motha supporters attacked the BJP Janajati Morcha leaders and supporters on Tuesday (Aug 23).
In the skirmish, three BJP supporters including the State president of BJP’s Janajati Morcha were injured and all of them were released from the Hospital after first-aid treatment.
According to local sources, BJP’s Janajati Morcha leaders and supporters assembled at Mungiyakami Bazar area today to conduct a party porogramme and open a party office there. However, a group of miscreants attacked the BJP activists and prevented the saffron party from conducting its scheduled programme.
State president of BJP’s Janajati Morcha Bikas Debbarma alleged, the miscreants are the supporters of the Tipra Motha. Speaking to the media, Debbarma vehemently condemned the attack.
The situation was brought under control owing to prompt Police action. However tension is palpable in the area.
