Tripura Engineer Debangsu Ray Appointed Head of World's Largest Oil Refinery in Gujarat
Debangsu Ray, an esteemed engineer and alumnus of Tripura’s Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan, has achieved a milestone as the head of Reliance Industries Limited’s Jamnagar Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat.
The RIL Jamnagar complex, recognized as the largest oil refinery globally, is a landmark project for India’s energy sector, covering an area comparable in scale to Mumbai.
Debangsu Ray, who hails from Agartala, is celebrated in Tripura for his exemplary academic and professional accomplishments.
After excelling in his education at Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan, he went on to graduate with a degree in Chemical Engineering from NIT Warangal, earning a gold medal that marked the start of his impressive career.
Ray’s journey in the oil and gas industry spans over three decades, beginning with his pivotal role in the International Trade Division of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
There, he led significant reforms in crude oil sourcing, bringing substantial cost benefits and stability to India’s energy supply chain.
His expertise soon attracted the attention of Reliance Industries, which he joined in 2015 as the head of one of the Jamnagar sites.
Over the years, Debangsu Ray’s strategic insight and dedication saw him rise through the ranks, ultimately leading him to his current position as head of the entire Jamnagar Supersite.
The 64-year-old Debangsu, known for his technical prowess and collaborative approach, takes on his new role with a wealth of experience. His leadership is expected to drive further innovation and operational efficiency within the Jamnagar complex, reinforcing its position at the forefront of global refining and petrochemical production.
Ray’s appointment has sparked pride among Tripura’s residents, who see his achievement as a source of inspiration for young aspirants in the region.
