Tripura gearing up for G20 Science Summit, CM holds review meeting

As the State is gearing up to host the Science Summit of G-20 countries on April 3-4 next, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha held a meeting to review the overall preparations for the upcoming mega event in Agartala on Thursday (March 30).

 

Later, in a social media post, Dr Saha wrote, “Tripura is excited to welcome the delegates from around the world in the #G20 summit, scheduled to be held at Hapania intl fairground, Agartala on 3rd & 4th April”.

 

The theme of the Science Summit of G20 in Agartala is ‘Clean Energy for a Greener Future’.

 

In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the concerned department officials to work in tandem with utter sincerity during the Summit. He also said the G-20 delegates will visit several places during their stay in the State. He appealed to the officials to maintain the beauty and ensure cleanliness at the sites. Dr Saha also emphasized beautification and cleanliness in Agartala.

Presenting details of the preparations, secretary of the Industry and Commerce department Abhishek Chandra said the Summit – S20 - will commence at 9 am at the Indoor Exhibition Hall at Hapania International Fair Ground on April 3 next. The Indoor exhibition hall is undergoing dressing up for hosting the Summit.

 

Chandra also said the delegates will arrive in the City on April 2. Later, they will visit the Albert Ekka Park at Lichubagan in Agartala and Musical Fountain at Kumaritila in the evening.

 

On April 3, the after the first session of the summit, the second session will begin in which exhibition stalls will be inaugurated, and a press conference followed by an Investor Meet will be held.

In the evening on the same day, a Light and Sound programme at the Ujjayanta Palace and a culture programme will be organized with the initiative of the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department.

 

A Yoga session will be organized at Oxygen Park on April 4 in which the delegates of the G20 countries will take part. For this purpose, Yoga trainers and announcers were specially trained. Besides, the delegates will participate in a sapling plantation initiative in the Park.

 

The delegates will also visit Neermahal, Sepahijala Sanctuary and Purbasa on April 4 next. Beautification and cleanliness drives are underway in all spot, Chandra said. 

 

Chandra also said the MBB airport has been beautifully decorated to welcome the delegates. Besides, both sides of the road from the Airport to the Polo Towers have been illuminated and walls were painted depicting the rich cultural heritage of the State.

 

Speaking at the meeting Director of the ICA, Ratan Biswas detailed the cultural event at the Ujjayanta Palace. He said the programmes will aim at highlighting the mixed cultural heritage of the State. Biswas also said the cultural programmes will be live telecast on the LED screens installed in different places in Agartala.  

 

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Tripura Police Amitabha Ranjan and others were present in today’s review meeting.
