Tripura Makes big Strides in Healthcare: Free Heart Surgery for Children, Focus on TB Eradication

The Tripura government has prioritized improving healthcare access for all residents, with a special focus on children and eradicating diseases like tuberculosis (TB).

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced a slew of initiatives during the launch of the two-month-long Stop Diarrhea Campaign on July 1st.

Free Heart Care for Children:

A key announcement was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Apollo Hospital, Chennai. This collaboration ensures free treatment for children with heart diseases. Additionally, complex surgeries can now be performed within Tripura, eliminating the need for travel and additional financial burdens on families.

Stop Diarrhea Campaign Launched:

Recognizing the vulnerability of children during the monsoon season, the government launched a door-to-door campaign to distribute ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and zinc tablets to children aged 0-5 years. This initiative aims to prevent dehydration and diarrhea, a major health concern for young children.

“When babies crawl, they touch many things, and with those hands, they touch their mouths or tongues, which can introduce parasites, viruses, and bacteria causing diarrhoea. We must take care of babies during crawling and ensure guardians keep their hands clean. We must work for the success of the Stop Diarrhoea campaign, especially during this rainy season. We also need to create awareness,” he emphasized.

Improved Healthcare Infrastructure and Outcomes:

Dr. Saha highlighted the increased presence of healthcare workers across the state, ensuring better medical service availability. These efforts have resulted in a significant decline in infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate.

Focus on Food Safety:

Further demonstrating their commitment to public health, the government has introduced mobile food testing laboratories. These labs will travel to various locations to ensure food quality and safety.

Public Awareness is Key:

While highlighting the government's efforts, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of public awareness. He urged citizens, especially parents, to be more vigilant about their health and the health of their children.
