Tripura News: Darchoi putting brave fight against Covid 2.0 with Govt help

Even as Corona sting continues to hit people of Tripura, a small village, Darchoi in North Tripura is putting a brave fight against the invisible pathogen using Government help and is setting an inspiring example for all.

Darchoi – inhabitated by indigenous people belonging to Darlong community – also well known for juicy pineapple cultivation is banking on simple principles to beat the Covid monster.

“Stick to basics” is our prime weapon in the battle against Corona, said the secretary of Covid Monitoring Committee (CMC) of Darchoi, Lalhmangaia Darlong.

There are 2021 inhabitants of 495 families living in the village. And, six inhabitants were found infected with Covid virus.

Darchoi-Pineapple-TripuraTo keep Covid at bay a 9-member Covid Monitoring Committee (CMC) was formed on May 20 in consultation with the Village Council. Lalhmangaia Darlong was selected as the secretary and Daniela Pastor as the Convener.

The Committee swung into action immediately to implement ‘basics’ – personnel cleanliness, avoid gatherings, test and get vaccinated.

“We deployed 24 young volunteers and erected gates at Kanchanpur Road and near Pabiachhara to prevent entry and exit of any person”, Lalhmangaia Darlong said over the phone.

He added, there are several households who are too poor to afford soaps and sanitisers for hand washing and personal hygiene. So we have come up with free washing facilities in places around the village. Also, we are focusing on wearing masks.

“Besides, we are conducting sanitization drives regularly and we sanitized the entire village again today using 16 machines. Members of VC, CMC along with volunteers are carrying out the sanitization drives”, Lalhmangaia Darlong.

He also pointed out, “In line with the Prime Minister’s and the State Government’s appeal for Testing, we have started aggressive Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) in the village”.

Moreover, we observed 24-hour curfew in Darchoi village on Sunday (May 23 last), the CMC secretary said.

Meanwhile, acting on the request of the CMC, the Kumarghat Health Centre promptly dispatched 150 doses of Covid vaccines for 18+ years old beneficiaries and a free vax drive was held in the village on Monday (May 24) last.

“Almost the 65+ years old persons of the village had already received at least the first dose and so also for 45+ years old persons. Some of the 18+ years old are yet to be vaccinated and we are hoping to cover them soon. We are grateful to the Central Government and the State Government for providing free vaccines and RAT facility”, Lalhmangaia Darlong said.

The CMC with the help of local ASHA workers and Kumarghat Health Centre are taking care of six Covid positive patients and visiting them twice daily. The CMC members are also ensuring a normal supply of essentials to the families. He applauded the role of ASHA and Kumarghat Health Centre personnel.
