Tripura News: For first time, ADC to celebrate World Indigenous Day, says Pradyot

The TIPRA Motha controlled Tripura Tribal Areas and Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will start celebrating World Indigenous Day from this year, said Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma in Agartala on Sunday.

World Indigenous Day is celebrated on August 9 across the globe. The celebration aims at preserving and promoting the unique traditional culture of indigenous people.

“For the last 35 years in Tripura, no one officially celebrated the World Indigenous Day. We are the first to do that,” adding to this Motha Chief said, “The day shall be celebrated across the state except in Agartala due to the Covid restrictions this year.”

Addressing a press conference today Debbarma said, “We have started playing the National Anthem in the ADC Sessions which happened for the first time in the history of the ADC. The latest addition is that from this year onwards the Council will start celebrating the World Indigenous Day for the interest of the communities of the state.”

Launching tirade against the Leftists, Pradyot Debbarma said, Leftists ruined the rich cultural traditions and heritage of Tiprasa. He said it is time for initiating a united effort to revert it and enrich the traditions and customs of indigenous people.

On Greater Tipra Land, Debbarma reiterated the demand is not just a political issue rather it is a battle for gaining Constitutional rights. In this connection, Debbarma asserted Motha is not a ‘B’ team of any political party – it is indeed an ‘A’ team.

Pradyot Kishore on Sunday officially welcomed the TSF – the oldest indigenous student organization of Tripura in TIPRA Motha. “I welcomed the TSF in TIPRA Motha and we shall now remain united and focused on Greater Tipraland,” Pradyot said.
