Tripura News: PM makes reference to Tripura grown jackfruit in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave it a special mention in his popular Maan Ki Baat programme on Sunday. His reference is expected to popularize juicy jackfruit of Tripura across the country, even in abroad.

Even amidst Corona gloom, the Prime Minister’s reference to Tripura grown Jackfruit and farmers of the State, brought a sense of pride among the people of Tripura.

Since after the Mann Ki Baat was broadcast, The Prime Minister’s reference to Tripura was widely circulated in social media platform.

While making reference to jackfruit grown in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognized the role of hardworking farmers of Tripura and presented them as an example of doing wonders. He said the farmers from Tripura are doing very well by taking advantage of the new arrangements.

The Prime Minister said, “Friends, today the farmers of our country are doing wonders in many areas by taking advantage of the new arrangements. Take for example, the farmers of Agartala. These farmers produce very good jackfruit. Anticipating their demand in the country and abroad, this time the jackfruit of farmers from Agartala was brought to Guwahati by rail. The jackfruits are now being sent to London from Guwahati."

Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his words.

“Deeply grateful to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji for recognising and appreciating the efforts of the hardworking farmers of #Tripura.

We are tirelessly working to ensure the prosperity and well-being of our #Annadatas and making the state an agro-powerhouse in #NorthEast India,” Deb wrote on his Facebook handle.

Notably, jackfruit is being produced in Tripura in abundance. Supply of jackfruit in the market is much more than demand leaving wastage of a large quantity of this juicy but perishable fruit.

Sensing opportunities to grab wider market, the first consignment of 350 jackfruits was sent to the Guwahati-based exporters on a trial run on May 20 last. The jackfruits were then exported to London via New Delhi.
