Tripura News: Two teenagers killed in lightning strike at Ambassa under Dhalai District

Two teenagers from the Ambassa Police Station area in Tripura after lightning struck them during torrential rains. The teens were identified as James Malsom and Ranjan Reang. Both were 16 years old. The incident occurred at the Brindajay Para under Ambassa Police Station on April 18.

As per the details, James Malsom and Bikash Reang went out of their residences on in afternoon of April 18. In the evening, thick clouds were overcast and a heavy thunderstorm accompanied by rains started. Both took shelter under a large tree.

However, in a cruel twist of fate, lightning struck the tree and both teenagers died. As they did not return home, family members and locals searched at night for the duo without any success. Later, villagers noticed the bodies of Malsom and Reang lying under the tree on April 19 – both were severely burnt by lightning. Soon, family members and the Police were informed.

Led by Additional SP Manabendra Chowdhury and SDPO Nirupam Dutta, Police reached the spot along with the dog squad. According to Police sources, primarily the teens appeared to be struck by lightning and died. The bodies were taken to the Dhalai District Hospital and after an autopsy cause of death may be ascertained.

After receiving the news of the sudden death of two teens, DCM from the Ambassa Sub-division, Pankaj Dutta rushed to the hospital. He spoke to the family members of the deceased teens and also spoke to the doctors in detail. Dutta told that an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each would be given to the two bereaved families.

The incident cast a pall of gloom on the village. Notably, only two days ago, another person in Tripura died in lightning.
