Tripura Pradesh Congress Demands Education Minister's Resignation Over NEET, UGC-NET Irregularities

Tripura Pradesh Congress staged a protest  in Agartala on Friday demanding resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a thorough investigation over the irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the UGC-NET.

The Congress activists also burned an effigy of Dharmendra Pradhan today. Protesters raised slogans against the BJP government, calling for justice for affected students and stringent punishment for those involved in the malpractices.

Among others, Tripura Pradesh Congress chief Asish Saha and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman were present in today's protest.

Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman came down heavily on the Modi-led BJP Government and dubbed it as a Government of 'leaked question papers'.

He alleged there were allegations of around 70 leaked question paper incidents during the tenure of the Modi-led Government, but no one involved in this was brought to the book, so far.

"However, Congress and its frontal organizations, across the country, hit streets soon after the NEET Question Paper leak isdue came out", said the Congress MLA.

He continued his verbal tirade against the Modi-led BJP Government and alleged, deserving students did not secure places while undeserving ones, even the ones who did not pass the Higher Secondary exams, managed to score high marks in the NEET exams.

"In view of the emerging situation, We strongly demand resignation of the Union Education Minister and an investigation into the question paper leak issue", Roy Barman said.

Speaking to the media, Ashish Kumar Saha alleged that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been embroiled in repeated allegations of malpractice in its conducted examinations.

Currently, the UGC-NET examination has been canceled, causing disillusionment among the youth nationwide. Despite widespread protests against these malpractices in various states' high courts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have remained silent.

The Congress has been repeatedly lashing out at the BJP-led Union government over the NEET paper leak case.

On Wednesday last, after the cancellation of UGC-NET a day after the exam was held, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Centre and said that the BJP seems unable or unwilling to prevent paper leaks in India.

About 24 lakh aspirants appeared for NEET on May 5 for admission to medical colleges. The results were announced on June 5 but were marred by allegations of paper leak and awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 candidates.
