Air service provider Flybig has reached Tripura on Friday with daily flight service in Agartala- Kolkata route from both directions.
An official release said, the flight is scheduled to depart daily from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala at 16:10 hours and complete the journey to Kolkata in 55 minutes on an average. In the other direction, the flight will take off from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose international airport, Kolkata at 17:45 hours.
The air tickets will start at Rs 2999, which is equivalent to a second AC train ticket from Kolkata to Agartala, the release said.
To mark the launch of the new service, the Flybig counters in both the airports were decorated with danglers and banners.
The debut flight from Agartala to Kolkata was a special day for Flybig and the flight was flagged off amid applause and the distribution of sweets.
It now operates across 7 states and 12 cities, including Indore and Bhopal in (Madhya Pradesh), Gondia in (Maharashtra), Hyderabad in (Telangana), Kolkata (West Bengal), Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Lilabari, Rupsi (all in Assam), Agartala (Tripura) as well as Passighat and Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh).
The air service provider will offer new air routes in the coming days that will connect India’s small towns, aligning with the Government of India’s vision of Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik- RCS (UDAN-RCS).
On this occasion, Captain Sanjay Mandavia, CMD flybig said, “With regular daily flight services on this air route, it will take only 55 minutes to reach Agartala from Kolkata, compared to about 40 hours by road. I anticipate an increase in VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) demand on the flybig Agartala- Kolkata air route on account of the strong cultural and linguistic ties between people in West Bengal and Tripura.”
