Agartala (Tripura) July 25: Tripura is on the verge of witnessing legendary former players from India’s two most iconic football clubs—East Bengal and Mohun Bagan – in action in Agartala.
They will participate in a landmark exhibition match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. For the very first time, football fans in the state will witness this epic face-off at Umakanta Maidan in Agartala on Sunday, August 17.
This historic match is being organized jointly by the Tripura Football Association (TFA) and the Kolkata-based Srachi Sports Group.
Announcing the event at a press conference held at Agartala Press Club on Friday, the TFA officials shared key details of the preparations and the star-studded lineup of players expected to grace the field.
Present at the media briefing were TFA Patron Ratan Saha, TFA president Pranab Sarkar, Secretary Amit Choudhury, East Bengal Club Secretary Rupak Saha, and other senior officials of the association.
From the Srachi Group, former Indian internationals Alberto D’Cunha and Rahim Nabi added their presence to the event, symbolizing the rich heritage that the match intends to celebrate.

The announcement has sparked a wave of excitement among football enthusiasts across Tripura, as this is the first time national-level football icons—many of whom have donned the Indian jersey—will play an exhibition match in the state. Adding to the excitement, a live screening of the highly anticipated East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan derby match, scheduled for Saturday at Kolkata’s Kalyani Stadium, will be held at Rupasi Cinema Hall in Agartala. The live telecast arrangement was also announced by Ratan Saha during the press interaction.
