Summary

  • Critical Case: 28-year-old Monica was admitted to GBP Hospital, Agartala, on July 15, 2025, with a life-threatening brain hemorrhage caused by a rare cerebral aneurysm.
  • Third Hemorrhage: When Monica suffered a third hemorrhage, the family placed full trust in GBP Hospital, where she was readmitted on July 20.
  • Free of Cost Treatment: The surgery, which would have cost around ₹10 lakh at a private hospital, was done free of charge under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

In a moving testament to the power of trust, dedication, and medical excellence, doctors at the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital have given a 28-year-old woman, Monika, a new lease on life after successfully performing a rare and complex brain surgery. Their extraordinary effort not only saved a precious life but also rekindled public faith in the state’s healthcare system.

A Life Hanging by a Thread

Monika was rushed to GBP Hospital in 15 July 2025 after suffering a sudden and severe brain hemorrhage. Her family, gripped by fear and uncertainty, initially doubted the hospital’s capabilities.

Dr. Abir Lal Nath, Assistant Professor of Neurology, promptly diagnosed a rare cerebral aneurysm and explained that an advanced Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) followed by coiling was essential to save her life.

Despite Dr. Nath’s guidance, Monika’s family sought treatment at the prestigious CMC Hospital in Vellore, hoping for better prospects. There, specialists reaffirmed the need for the very same DSA procedure advised in Tripura—an affirmation that slowly began to shift the family’s perspective.

Trust, Reassured

Upon their return to Tripura, the desperate family turned to Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, seeking referral to an out-of-state facility. But Dr. Saha, himself a medical professional, assured them that GBP Hospital was fully equipped for the procedure. He encouraged the family to place their faith in Tripura’s own doctors.

Fate soon tested them again. Monika suffered a third brain hemorrhage. Time was running out.

A Team’s Heroic Response

On July 20, Monika was readmitted to GBP Hospital in critical condition. Dr. Abir Lal Nath once again stepped up, reassuring the family that the life-saving procedure would be carried out free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme—treatment that could have otherwise cost around ₹10 lakh in a private hospital.

What followed was a breathtaking display of medical precision, teamwork, and human compassion.

Led by Dr. Nath and supported by Dr. Surjit Pal, Dr. Monimoy Debnath, Sister-in-Charge Sebika Dutta, and dedicated nurses Prankrishna Deb, Titiksha Majumdar, Sanjay Ghosh, Manas Dutta, and Debabrata Debnath, the team successfully performed the delicate aneurysm coiling on July 23.

Even as they confronted the terrifying sight of a massive aneurysm, their hands did not waver. Their mission was clear—save Monika.

A Mother’s Tears, A Doctor’s Joy

As Monika gradually regained stability, the atmosphere in the neurology ward turned emotional. Her mother and sisters, eyes brimming with tears, embraced Dr. Nath and the medical staff, unable to express the depth of their gratitude in words.

It was a moment that transcended medical achievement—it was the celebration of life, compassion, and unwavering human resolve.

A Milestone for Tripura’s Healthcare

Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Health Director Professor (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar, and Health Secretary Kiran Gitte were informed of the landmark success. This triumph has become more than a medical milestone—it’s a beacon of hope for thousands across the state.

“It’s not just a story of treatment. It’s a story of perseverance, faith, and the power of collective human spirit,” said Dr. Nath, humbled by the family’s trust and the outcome of their efforts.

The Road Ahead

While neurointervention is still developing in Tripura, Monika’s successful surgery marks a turning point. The Neurology Department at GBP Hospital now urges people to believe in the state’s medical institutions and their skilled professionals.

Monika, just 28, now looks forward to a future once thought uncertain—a future filled with hope, courage, and the enduring warmth of those who refused to give up on her.

This heartening update was shared by the Health Department of Tripura, reminding everyone that sometimes, miracles happen not in faraway cities, but right at home—in the hands of those who care the most.
