February 22, 2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, Nagaland needs a stable Government to bring in development and peace.
Addressing an election rally for BJP-NDPP alliance in Tuensang district today, Mr Modi said his government is working sincerely to bring a solution to the vexed Naga political problem, and is open to consultations with all stakeholders.

Mr Modi said, his Government aims to bring infrastructure and transformation in the state by transportation. He said the priority areas for development will include infrastructure, water, electricity, connectivity and tourism.
The Prime Minister said a special focus will be given to Eastern Nagaland in terms of infrastructure development and welfare schemes.
Speaking on connectivity in the State, Mr Modi said during the last three years, work on 500 kilometres of National Highways has been completed and around 1000 more kilometres will be covered in the 3-4 years, at a cost of over 10,000 crore rupees.
On the Centre’s plan to connect all State Capitals by Rail, Mr Modi said 3,000 crore rupees have been sanctioned for Dimapur-Kohima rail connectivity. The Prime Minister also assured to give Dimapur-Shillong flight connectivity in the near future.
Emphasizing the need to provide electricity to every household, he said, the Centre has spent 800 crore rupees, covering one lakh family in Nagaland, which is about 60 percent.
Mr Modi said, the remaining 40 percent will also be covered very shortly. For Kohima Smart City project, he informed that Centre has already sanctioned 1,800 crore rupees.
On the Centre’s Project on Housing for all, he said Centre will spend about 1,600 crore rupees on housing for Nagaland. On health sector, especially for women, the Prime Minister said, during the last three years the Centre has sanctioned 400 crore rupees through the National Health Mission.
Mr Modi said the Centre is giving priority to make agriculture products in the Northeast region hundred percent organic. Later, addressing a poll rally at Phulbari in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya this afternoon, the Prime Minister accused the Congress government in the state of wasting 50 years of the people of the state, he said, under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Centre had provided around 470 crore rupees for construction of 1100 KM of roads in the state. However, he said, Meghalaya government spent only 50 per cent of the amount.
Appealing to people of Meghalaya to give BJP a chance to serve them, Mr. Modi assured of good governance by the BJP in the state guided by the principle of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.
Expressing the interest to further strengthen the Act East Policy, Mr. Modi hoped that this will open up opportunities for people in the state as well as in the entire Northeast. The Prime Minister said, Meghalaya has immense potential for the growth of tourism sector but the state lacks tourists as no efforts were made ever to strengthen the sector. Meanwhile, Chief Minister and Congress leader Mukul Sangma and Assam state Congress President Ripun Bora also addressed poll rallies today. (AIR News)
