April 09, 2018: As many as 27 people including 24 school children died in a bus accident at cheli village near Nurpur in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh on Monday. Fifteen school children have also been critically injured in this incident. The accident occurred around 4 pm when school children were returning by bus from the school.
The driver and conductor of the bus also died in the incident. NDRF along with district administration and locals carried out relief and rescue operation. The critically injured students have been admitted to nearby hospitals. All bodies have been recovered. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed deep grief over this incident and ordered magisterial inquiry.
Chief Minister has also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 5 lakh each to next to the kin of the deceased. President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief over tragic accident.
In a tweet, Mr. Kovind said he is extremely saddened to learn about the accident. He said his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and with those injured. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the accident. Mr Modi, in a tweet, said, his prayers and solidarity are with those who lost their near and dear ones. (AIR News)
