December 24, 2017: In Himachal Pradesh, BJP leader Jai Ram Thakur will be the new Chief Minister. He was elected leader of BJP legislature party at a meeting held in Shimla this afternoon.
Thakur accompanied by former Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal, Central observers and other senior leaders visited Rajbhawan and handed over a letter to Governor Acharya Devvrat staking claim to form the new government. The Governor Acharya Devvrat invited Jai Ram Thakur to form his government in the state.
Earlier, former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal presented Jai Ram Thakur’s name for the post of Chief Minister while Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda and senior Party MP Shanta Kumar seconded his name. Later central observer and Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced Jai Ram Thakur’s name as Chief Minister at a press conference. The oath ceremony of new government will be held on 27th December on historic Ridge Maidan of Shimla.
Jai Ram Thakur is being elected continuously since 1998 to Himachal Pradesh assembly from Siraj assembly segment of Mandi district. Born on 6th January 1965, Jai Ram Thakur belongs to far flung village Tandi of Mandi district. Graduate from Himachal Pradesh University, he joins Akhil Bharitya Vidyarathi Parishad since during college time.
Jai Ram Thakur remained state president of BJP from 2006 to 2009 and also served on various organizational posts during the period. From 2007 to 2012 in the then BJP government he remained Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister. Large number of Jai Ram Thakur supporters celebrates this historic moment not only in Shimla but in Mandi district also. (AIR News)
