Agartala, April 29 (IANS): In yet another crackdown on illegal cross-border movement, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Tripura Frontier, apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals – including a woman – for illegally entering Indian territory on Tuesday.
Officials confirmed that the trio was intercepted by vigilant BSF personnel at Teliamura railway station while attempting to board the Agartala-Silchar train bound for Assam.
The apprehended individuals hail from Habibganj district under Sylhet Division in Bangladesh.
In the same operation, the BSF also arrested two Indian nationals from Khowai district, believed to be touts aiding illegal infiltration into Tripura from the neighboring country.
A BSF spokesperson stated that the action was based on specific intelligence, and emphasized the force’s commitment to securing the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
In parallel anti-smuggling operations conducted along different parts of the border, BSF troops thwarted several smuggling bids and seized contraband items valued at Rs 4 lakh.
The BSF has significantly stepped up surveillance and border patrolling in recent months to curb illegal immigration, smuggling, and potential threats from anti-national elements.

The heightened border vigilance comes in the wake of rising instability in Bangladesh, especially after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024. Since the outbreak of violence in June-July last year, the BSF has intensified its domination along sensitive border zones.

Earlier, on April 26 (Saturday), the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained four more Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala railway station as they tried to board a train bound for southern India. During interrogation, the detainees admitted their plan to reach Bengaluru in search of employment opportunities.
Similarly, on April 20, five Bangladeshi citizens, including three women, were nabbed in a joint operation by the BSF, GRP, and RPF for unlawful entry into India.
Officials confirm that the recent series of arrests are part of an intensified effort, following central government directives, to curb unauthorized immigration, smuggling, and movement of extremist elements across the Indo-Bangladesh border. (Edited)
