New Delhi, January 23, 2020 (IANS) : Remembering Subhas Chandra Bose, Netaji, on his 123rd birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the nation will always remain grateful to the leader, who stood up for the progress and well-being of his fellow Indians.

Sharing a 1.55-minute long video on Twitter, Modi listed the contributions of Netaji in the freedom struggle and recalled his dedication to get freedom for the country.
“India will always remain grateful to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for his bravery and indelible contribution to resisting colonialism. He stood up for the progress and well-being of his fellow Indians,” Modi said.
Modi also tweeted a note written by Netaji’s father Jankinath Bose at the time of his birth: “On 23rd January 1897, Janakinath Bose wrote in his diary, ‘A son was born at midday.’ This son became a valorous freedom fighter and thinker who devoted his life towards one great cause – India’s freedom. I refer to Netaji Bose, who we proudly remember on his Jayanti today.”
Odisha pays tribute to Netaji, Veer Surendra Sai
Odisha on Thursday paid rich tribute to freedom fighters Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 123rd birth anniversary and Veer Surendra Sai on his 211th birth anniversary.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik offered floral tributes to Netaji at his statue in Cuttack, the birthplace of the legendary leader. Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal also paid floral tribute to Bose.
“Tributes to brave son of Odisha, great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. He is remembered for his indomitable courage, bravery and patriotism,” tweeted the Chief Minister.
Paying tribute to Veer Surendra Sai, the Chief Minister said his fight in the freedom struggle and to safeguard the rights of tribals will continue to inspire the people.
Netaji was born in Cuttack on this day in 1897. Surendra Sai was born at Khinda village in Sambalpur in 1809.
As the nation remembers Netaji on his birth anniversary, sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik shared an art created by his students at Puri sea beach to pay tributes to the legendary freedom fighter.
